Christopher Othen

Christopher Othen is an Anglo-Welsh writer. In 2007, Spanish language publisher Ediciones Destino brought out his first book ‘Las Brigades Internacionales de Franco’. It examines the role of foreign volunteers with the right-wing Nationalist insurgents in the Spanish Civil War. An extract dealing with General Eoin O’Duffy’s Irish Brigade appeared in La Razón newspaper.

In 2008 a substantially rewritten English language version was published by UK based Reportage Press as ‘Franco’s International Brigades: Foreign Volunteers and Fascist Dictators in the Spanish Civil War’. A Book of the Day review in The Irish Times described it as ‘vivid ... an accessible introduction into this neglected aspect of the Spanish Civil War’.

In September 2009 Christopher Othen appeared on ABC's Late Night Live radio show to discuss ‘Franco’s International Brigades’ with host Phillip Adams. The broadcast can be heard at Late Night Live's website. The Bright Review website, which has over 30,000 words of free content, began the same month.

Christopher is currently working on a book about the Katanga and Simba conflicts that raged in the former Belgian Congo through the 1960s. If you have any information on this subject, first hand or otherwise, please contact him.
